2024 NEF Gala Reception

The NEF Board of Directors cordially invites you to attend the NEF Gala Reception, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 15, 2024, Honoring Susan Bowar-Ferres, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, and the recently established Susan Bowar-Ferres Scholarship Fund devoted to Nursing leadership in the Magnet Recognition Program.

The Gala Reception will be held at the Griffis Faculty Club, New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center located at 521 East 68th Street (at York Avenue) New York, NY 10065. Tickets cost $125 each.

Available sponsorships start at:

Susan Bowar-Ferres Scholarship Fund

Created in 2023, the Susan Bowar-Ferres Scholarship is devoted to nursing leadership in the Magnet Recognition Program which recognizes health-care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Consumers rely on Magnet designation as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing.

The scholarship is given to a Master’s or Doctoral student demonstrating leadership in aspiring to achieve or continuing to achieve Magnet designation, such as being a Magnet Program Director/Coordinator read more.

The Johnson & Johnson and Edwidge Thomas Health Equity Scholarship

NEF Vice President, Edwidge Thomas, facilitated the creation of a Johnson & Johnson "Our Race to Health Equity" Scholarship for Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. for a second consecutive year. The 2024-2025 Academic year scholarship was increased from $50,000 awarded to five doctoral scholars in 2023 to a $100,000 scholarship to be awarded to a total of 15 doctoral and master's nursing scholars in 2024. The name of these scholarships is "The Johnson & Johnson Edwidge Thomas Health Equity Scholarships". read more.
UN Recognizes Francine Bono-Neri

Francine Bono-Neri Scholarship Fund

On May 8, 2024, Dr. Francine Bono-Neri will be recognized and honored by the NURSES WITH GLOBAL IMPACT and VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing at the United Nations as, "the extraordinary nurse who is making a huge impact".

NEF congratulates Francine for this remarkable honor and for her tireless efforts dedicated to the prevention of Human Trafficking.

Francine and NEF have established the Francine Bono-Neri Scholarship Fund to support graduate nurses who are specializing their studies in the prevention of Human Trafficking. As an experienced pediatric nurse practitioner, Dr. Bono-Neri's passion for the global reach of human trafficking inspired her to co-found and serve as president of Nurses United Against Human Trafficking. read more.
NEF Celebrates M. Elizabeth Carnegie

M. Elizabeth Carnegie, DPA, RN, FAAN (April 19, 1916 - 2008)

NEF Celebrates M. Elizabeth Carnegie During the Month of April

Dr. Carnegie was an educator and author in the field of nursing, known for breaking down racial barriers. She was the first black nurse to serve as a voting member on the board of a state nursing association. She was later president of the American Academy of Nursing and edited the Journal of Nursing Research.

In 2008 in her will, Dr. Carnegie created a Nurses Educational Funds Scholarship explicitly for black nurses enrolled in doctoral programs.

Each year Nurses Educational Funds, (NEF), awards the M. Elizabeth Carnegie African American Scholarship. The 2022 and 2023 NEF scholars receiving this scholarship were Jessica Arter in 2023 and Brenice Duroseau in 2022.
